Volunteer/Service Learning Opportunities
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Frederick County has been involved with the Community Learning Center at Hillcrest Elementary School on Monday and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 pm and Waverly Elementary School on Tuesday and Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. The program has been held in collaboration with the Frederick County Public Schools, the YMCA, Teamlink, the Girl Scouts of the Nations Capital, and the Young Rembrandts. This program is designed to assist eligible students to meet state and local achievement standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math, and provides students with an array of enrichment activities that complement their regular academic programs. After a brief hiatus due to funding changes, BBBS looks forward to returning to this program next year.
Please remember that you can make a big difference in a child’s life just by volunteering one hour a week in a BBBS school based program.
Core Program
The Core Program provides quality one-on-one mentoring to children of dysfunctional and/or single-parent homes. Each match is initiated and closely supervised by experienced and qualified case managers. Our efforts are focused on youth development, self-esteem building, and the prevention of behavioral problems. We have been extremely successful in providing good, positive role models to the children in our program.
Contact our Core Program caseworkers or call (301) 694-9455 to talk about volunteering in thw program.
