Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable things you'll ever do. You have the opportunity to help shape a child’s future for the better by empowering him or her to achieve. And the best part is, it’s actually a lot of fun. You and your Little can share the kinds of activities you already like to do. Play sports together. Go on a hike. Read books. Eat a pizza with extra anchovies. Or just give some advice and inspiration. Whatever it is you enjoy, odds are you’ll enjoy it even more with your Little—and you’ll be making a life-changing impact.
Volunteering just a few hours a month with a child can start something amazing. So apply to be a Big today. There are kids out there ready to get started. Are you?
You can also make a donation to help fund the careful one-to-one matching and ongoing professional mentoring support unique to Big Brothers Big Sisters. Your gift will help match a child facing adversity with an adult mentor. Your gift will lead to successful outcomes for that child and his or her community. Whether you get involved as a volunteer or as a donor, we welcome and thank you for your support!

Additional Volunteer Opportunities
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Frederick County has many volunteer opportunities to assist at-risk youth. Volunteers are also needed to provide office support, and assist in promotional activities and fundraisers, such as Bowl For Kids' Sake, Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and the Annual Golf Tournament. Anyone from a middle school student to a senior citizen can volunteer. Just call us at (301) 694-9455 and set up an appointment with Volunteer Recruiter Valerie Moore. All volunteers receive support, and are invited to our annual volunteer recognition events and other special activities.
How to Enroll Your Child
Step 1... Parent usually calls the BBBS office for an orientation.
Step 2... An in person interview is set up at the office or child's home when the application is filled out.
Step 3... Caseworker completes a home visit.
Step 4... Child is accepted and placed on the waiting list.
Step 5... The parent is informed about the prospective volunteer's background.
Step 6... A match is made between the child and the volunteer.
After the match is made the caseworker keeps close contact with the volunteer, child and parent and offer support on a regular basis or when necessary additional consultation and support services are needed.
